How Mataco got its name
Anyone involved with an IT project will know that the biggest problem is deciding on a name for the product. The task of naming is often under-resourced, derided and misunderstood. We needed help with this and ran an internal competition for suggestions as to what the name would be.
Many suggestions were made and "Mataco" was chosen. A Mataco is a 3 banded Armadillo (click here for more details). It was felt that an Armadillo is an excellent symbol for business continuity management. A Mataco has a plan for dealing with a disruption to its activities. It carries that plan with it at all times and implements it instinctively. The name was chosen by the son of a member of staff (well done Kit!) and a suitable donation was made towards his Christmas fund.
