What is LabelCyte? The Benefits of the LabelCyte System
At Savant, we have been providing medical and scientific organisations with cutting edge software and tracking systems for decades. LabelCyte is just one of our range of products designed to improve accuracy, efficiency and safety of the medical and scientific industries, and is designed specifically to improve tracking of stem cells, blood and other human tissues in storage, through effective human tissue product labelling.
LabelCyte is a software tool that can be used to provide laboratories, medical centres and researchers with a simple, quick and efficient way to label and track human tissue samples. One of the key features of LabelCyte is that it provides users with FACT-JACIE and ICCBBA/ISBT128 compliant labelling, which allows samples and products to be transported and tracked using universal systems. By using internationally recommended systems, there is considerably less margin for error as the labelling provided by LabelCyte is universally recognised. Using LabelCyte, human stem cell banks or baby stem cell banking facilities, for example, can easily convert non-compliant labels into compliant labels using information from the original, non-compliant labels.
The labelling system also follows all of the relevant regulatory requirements for human tissue product labels. It is capable of automatically creating unique ICCBBA/ISBT128-compliant donation numbers, as well as SEC (Single European Code) identification codes. Additionally, it has the capability to generate barcodes in both linear, 2D (data matrix) and QR barcode formats, seamlessly integrating with both Zebra and Brady label printers.

ICCBBA/ISBT128 Compliant Labelling
ICCBBA, the international standards organization responsible for the management and development of the ISBT 128 Standard, is designed to assure the greatest accuracy, safety, and efficiency for the benefit of donors and patients throughout the world. ISBT (International Society of Blood Transfusion) 128 is the global standard compliance system and is used to standardise the terminology, identification, coding and labelling of medical products of human origin (MPHOs). MPHO’s include blood, cell, tissue, milk, and organ products, and there is a strict range of standards in place for each different product. ISBT 128 is recognised by more than 87 countries across six continents, including a range of diverse national, public and private healthcare systems. Because of how ubiquitous it is among healthcare providers and professionals, ISBT 128 provides international traceability and consistency for blood, cells, tissues, and organ transfusion and transplantations.
For the benefit of donors and patients worldwide, this standard has been designed to ensure the highest levels of accuracy, safety, and efficiency. The original purpose of the ISBT was to serve as a labelling standard, but as time has passed and healthcare has become more globalized, it has evolved into an international standard covering all aspects of information transfer for human products. ISBT 128 is not only a universal labelling standard, but also includes standardized product definitions, bar code data structures, and electronic data interchange standards, making it one of the most comprehensive compliance bodies in this sector.
Various countries have been using the ISBT 128 standard for many years, including UK stem cell banks and NHS stem cell banks. In the field, it has been demonstrated that it can convey accurate information about medical products of human origin unambiguously and accurately.
As a result, a variety of delivery mechanisms, including LabelCyte and other technologies, can be used to transfer information, which is vital in today’s world, as users of the ISBT 128 standard are located across the globe. By LabelCyte being ISBT128 compliant, we are able to assure our customers in the scientific and medical sectors of the high standards we put into all of the work we do.
FACT – JACIE Accreditation Standards Explained
LabelCyte allows labelling that follows the FACT-JACIE standards. While ISBT 128 is used to ensure standard labelling and tracking practices for a range of human tissues, JACIE focuses on developing and maintaining quality medical and laboratory practices in the field of cellular therapy specifically. The JACIE committee is part of the EBMT (European Blood and Marrow Transplantation) and its primary objective is to boost the quality of clinical and laboratory care in transplantation centres and promote high-quality patient care.
At Savant we are proud to supply products that assist establishments to comply with ICCBBA/ISBT128 standards and follow FACT-JACIE standards in order to provide the best quality service to our clients.
