Savant is now listed on the Digital Marketplace under the Digital Outcomes and Specialists category.
Digital Outcomes lists suppliers who can provide teams to build and support a digital service. For example, a digital outcome could be a discovery phase to create an information systems vision of an NHS department.
Digital Specialists lists suppliers who can provide individual specialists to deliver a specific outcome with defined deliverables on a service, programme or project.
The aim of the Digital Marketplace is to make the commissioning process simpler, clearer and faster. Buying and selling through the Digital Outcomes and Specialists framework will:
- reduce the time and cost traditionally associated with procurement
- allow buyers and suppliers to talk to each other so they can decide whether there is a good fit
- give more suppliers the opportunity to support digital transformation across the whole of the public sector
All public sector organisations, including agencies and arm’s length bodies, can use the Digital Marketplace to find and buy cloud based services, specialists who can work on digital projects and physical data centre space.
The Digital Marketplace can be accessed here and will be available for users to buy and sell services from mid April 2016.
Savant now has two Software as a Service (SaaS) services listed on the Digital Marketplace in addition to recognition of its expertise in cloud based services.

Savant are launching a cloud based Human Milk Bank Management Service. The service accommodates both altruistic donations (given by the mother, with donations being stored in a human milk bank to be given to non-related babies) and direct donations (given by the mother to her own baby).
Provided as a Software as a Service (SaaS), the Human Milk Bank Management Service supports workflow through the management and tracking of the progress production and distribution of milk products. Process control is enforced at each step in the production process, be it at receipt, testing, production or issue of milk products.
Savant’s knowledge and skills gained with PULSE (blood donation, testing, processing, product manufacture and distribution) and Hematos IIG (product testing and manufacture) stand us in good stead to help implement control systems in a human milk bank environment.
More detailed information on the Human Milk Bank Management Service will be provided on this website soon. In the meantime if you would like to know more about this exciting new development, please contact us.
Savant will be exhibiting at BSHI at Clare College in the University of Cambridge on September 9th and 10th. Please come and visit our stand to find out more about the Hematos IIG product set. We will also be bringing along some local delicacies from Cumbria to give out to our visitors!

Written by Jamie Edgar of the Savant IT Technical Support team, this case study describes a recent SCO UNIX to VMware migration carried out by the team. The challenge was to migrate a 24/7 fully active financial system from 15 year old outdated hardware onto modern hardware without business downtime or data-loss. It was also necessary to preserve the system functionality including the operating system, bespoke software and service connectivity. Loss of the data would guarantee business collapse; downtime would hinder customer relationships due to loss of service and unsecure transitioning resulting in data leakage could result in malicious acts against personal or business reputation. Written by Ian Gray, the Savant Technical Director, this paper on IPv6 provides an insight into some of the issues around implementing IPv6. Originally written in 2010, this paper has been updated to reflect the many changes between then and 2014. Whilst the observations in the original document remain generally true, lessons have been learnt and this paper reflects these. The paper looks beyond the marketing hype of “IPv6 ready'” claims attached to devices and software to discuss the definitive issues of managing a deployment of IPv6 based on the authors experience. Specifically it documents the observations, lessons and discussions around the implementation of IPv6 on a small to intermediate network. Download his paper here.
